I finally got around to painting and distressing my antique buffet table! I’ve always wanted a white buffet and now this one is a perfect focal point for our back living area.
This antique buffet was a Facebook Marketplace find. I originally had a tv stand that I found at a liquidation store, and although it was beautiful and sturdy, it wasn’t solid wood or very unique. I had been on the lookout for a buffet to refinish for quite some time, but they can be pricey. When I found this one for along with the huge hutch I refinished in my dining room for $75 each on marketplace, I was thrilled! I sold my other tv stand for $140 and ended up with two solid wood antique pieces instead of one manufactured piece of furniture.
While the black wasn’t terrible, it was too dark for the room. We are refreshing our back living area right now and the white just brightens up the space. The photo below is what it looked like in our living room once we brought it home.
First, I painted the whole thing with two coats of Rustoleum Chalked Paint in Linen White. I used a regular angled paint brush.
Then, I took a couple of pieces of 80 grit sandpaper and distressed it by hand. I haven’t sealed it yet, but plan on doing so soon with a water-based polycrylic.
I am loving how it turned out! Refinishing a piece of furniture can be daunting, but it wasn’t hard at all! You can check out another piece I refinished here.

It’s finally time for fall decor! Today I’d like to share with you how I decorated my home this year for fall.
While it may not feel like fall yet in Indiana, many Instagram influencers decorate early in order to provide others with decor inspiration. Hopefully I can give you some ideas for your own fall decor!
Entryway
For my entryway, I used neutral pillows and a throw blanket on my church pew. I also used a pumpkin pillow from Homegoods and a hand-me-down fall wreath. Although it’s so simple, it gives off a cozy, fall vibe as soon as you walk in the door.
Living Room
On the shelf above the sofa, I added my new Pumpkin Patch sign from Hobby Lobby that my little sister got me as a gift. It makes such a great focal point in the room that is unmistakably fall. I added a few Hearth and Hand clearance eucalyptus stems to create the look of a garland and added white pumpkins from Hobby Lobby.
A few black Goodwill candlesticks and a white pitcher filled with more eucalyptus balances out and fills each side of the shelf. I added my new Hey There Pumpkin pillow cover from Three Little Mommas on the couch. Isn’t this pillow cover adorable?!
Dining Room
In the dining room, I created a fall tablescape using a jute runner, thrifted brass candlesticks, more Hobby Lobby white pumpkins, and these orange eucalyptus stems from Joann Fabrics.
I also added this DIY book page banner that I made to my Goodwill-find accordion coat rack.
Coffee Bar
On the coffee bar, I added a black and white buffalo check banner from Target Dollar Spot last year along with other black and white accents.
I added this mini sign from Hobby Lobby and my Rae Dunn pumpkin spice mug to my tiered tray.
Kitchen
I didn’t decorate much for fall in my kitchen but I did switch out my greenery for a few fall stems on this little hook.
All Things Fall
Overall, I decorated pretty simply for fall this year. I decorated earlier than I ever have because 2020 has been a crazy year and I was ready for a change. I’ll be decorating my porch soon and I’ll share that when it’s finished!

My entryway is one of my favorite places in my home to decorate. It’s one of the first things guests see when they enter our home and I want it to feel cozy as soon as you walk in the door.
I chose to use a lot of neutrals and texture to create a cozy fall entryway. Neutral tones and comfy pillows and throw blankets are just a few ways to create a cozy home (read more about cozy basics here).
I used two $2.99 thrifted cream pillows (plaid on the back), along with some white IKEA pillows and a pumpkin pillow from HomeGoods on my church pew. I draped a cream-colored blanket over the back to add more texture.
I hung a hand-me-down wreath with rust colored leaves on the hook above the pew. The sign and lanterns I kept the same as always. I love the look of a lit tealight candle in these lanterns at night. So cozy!
Eventually, I even added a small chalkboard on the floor near the blanket to add a bit more texture.
It’s such a simple look for fall but I’m loving it. Let me know what you think!

Fall is almost here! While it’s still hot in Indiana, I’m excited for sweater weather and a trip the pumpkin patch! Today I’d like to share with you how I created a budget-friendly, farmhouse fall tablescape.
I wanted to create a simple fall look with a vintage farmhouse feel. I gained ideas off of Pinterest and Instagram and knew I wanted to use antique candlesticks, white pumpkins, and eucalyptus. I planned on using green eucalyptus stems laid flat as a garland, but I changed my mind in the process.
When styling a space, I typically have an idea in mind and then adapt and change as I progress. I think it turns out better when you don’t have a clear picture of the end result. Going into decorating a space without perfection in mind always makes you happier when things are finished.
For my tablescape, I used a clearance jute table runner from Hobby Lobby that my mom gave to me. I was using a black and white buffalo check runner before but I knew that wouldn’t give that vintage look I was hoping for. I was thankful that my mom gave me this one. She’s the best!
I have also been slowly gathering brass candlesticks whenever I find them at my local Goodwill. I came across this set of six antique brass candlesticks for only $2.99! A complete set like this one can cost about $30-$50 at an antique shop, so these were a lucky find!
I placed some fake white pumpkins from Hobby Lobby along the centerpiece. These ones are only $1.80 each (40% off fall decor), so very affordable.
I also found these beautiful rust-colored eucalyptus stems from Joann Fabrics. They were on sale for $1.99 each and I used a 20% off coupon for entering my email online. I used 4 stems placed in an old galvanized container in the center of the table.
For the place settings, I didn’t change what I already had there. I used Rae Dunn plates, buffalo check napkins and white dinner plates from the Dollar Tree. The galvanized chargers are also from Hobby Lobby.
Overall, I’m happy with how my fall tablescape turned out. It was simple and inexpensive and gives off that vintage farmhouse look I was going for. It will be a perfect place to gather with family for dinner on chilly, fall evenings.

Hello all! I thought I’d share an easy DIY craft with you today! This past spring, I made a spring banner out of pages from an old hymnal. I’ve made a few more since then because they’re so cute and simple!
You only need a few materials to make these vintage style banners.
Materials:
– Old Book or Hymnal Pages
– Twine
– Hole Punch
– Sharpie Marker
The first step is to decide what you want your banner to say. I’ve made some for the seasons, using words like spring, fall, and Christmas. You can make it say anything you’d like!
The next step is to cut out pages from an old book or hymnal to use for each letter. You could even cut a triangle out of the bottom to add more detail to your banner.
Using a sharpie marker or stencils and paint, write each letter on your pages. Then, add two holes in the top corners of each page and thread twine through (down through the left and up through the right to hide the twine).
That’s it! It’s such a simple DIY craft that doesn’t cost much at all! I found an old hymnal at Goodwill for $0.69, the twine is $1.00 from the Dollar Tree, and I had a sharpie marker on hand.
You could also make these DIY book page ornaments for Christmas using the same materials!

After spending much more time at home recently, I’ve been thinking about ways to make our home feel more cozy. I believe that home should be a place where you can relax and feel comfortable. Lately, I’ve been inspired by Liz Marie Galvan and her book Cozy White Cottage. If you haven’t read it yet, it gives a ton of wonderful ideas on how to make your home feel cozy and inviting. So today, I thought I’d put together a list of items that I think help to create a cozy home and a relaxing environment.

1. Candles
The first thing I think of when I think of making home cozy is the smell of a yummy scented candle burning. There’s something about a home that smells good that just seems so inviting and comfortable. Candles are my favorite way to make my home feel cozy and welcoming. The flickering flame also gives off a cozy glow.

2. Throw Blankets
Another thing that instantly gives a feeling of coziness is a nice throw blanket to cuddle up in. I like placing throw blankets around the house in baskets to easily grab, or draped on a sofa or comfy chair. They’re such an easy and affordable way to say “come on in and get comfortable”.
A blanket draped on furniture is a simple way to add that cozy feel.
3. Neutral Colors
To me, using neutrals in my home feels more calm and cozy than using dark or bright colors. I think neutrals are easy on the eyes and not too demanding of attention, which helps me feel more relaxed. Though not everyone feels this way, I love using neutrals to create a cozy atmosphere.
Most of my furniture and decor is comprised of white or neutral colors. All of the walls in my house are either light grey, white, or cream.I painted this hutch in Sherwin Williams Alabaster, a great creamy neutral.
4. Texture
Blending various textures not only gives off a farmhouse feel, it makes a home feel more cozy and lived in. I like creating the look of texture even on my walls, with sharpie shiplap and board and batten. Blending various materials, such as wood, metals, glass, and fabrics around the house create a look that’s not so monotone and harsh.

5. Reminders of Faith/Family/Friends
I love to put reminders of my faith around the house. My relationship with Jesus Christ brings me peace and reminds me that I have a forever home with Him. Reminders of my faith remind me of the love my Savior has for me and makes me feel at home. For you, it could mean the same thing or maybe it could be family photos and memories that make your home feel cozy.
In our bedroom, I have a pair of signs that say “It is well with my soul”, a reminder of my faith and salvation through Christ. I am a fan of cold brew with cream and some vanilla syrup. And caramel macchiatos. And hot French vanilla cappuccinos. And don’t get me started on Starbucks’ Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew…
My husband likes it black. Or an iced Americano. Nothing fancy.
While I’d love to be able to go out and buy a delicious coffee every day, that’s just not possible. So instead I created a spot dedicated to making our own coffee at home.
My husband uses our Keurig to brew some coffee almost daily, so I wanted a space that was cute but functional. It has turned into one of my favorite places in my house to decorate!
To create a cute and functional coffee bar in your home, you simply need a few basics listed below.
– Coffee Maker (We have a Keurig)
-Canisters to store coffee and/or k-cups
-Mugs (mine is filled with Rae Dunn, of course)
-A place to store sugar and creamer
-Straws or Spoons
Then, you can have fun decorating the space through the holidays and seasons. I chose to put our coffee bar in a corner in our dining room. I used a $1 garage sale shelf that I painted white and a hand-me-down bar height table. I added all of the basics and it was ready to go!
My coffee bar is one of my favorite spots to switch up decor for various seasons and holidays. It’s so much fun!

Are you wanting to give your home a fresh look for summer but don’t know where to start? While there are many ways to decorate for summer, I love to go back to a simple farmhouse-style look after I take down my patriotic decor. Today, I want to share a few of my favorite ways to decorate for summer.
1. Buffalo Check
Black and white buffalo check is one of my favorite prints to decorate with! While it isn’t for everyone, I love to use it throughout the year. I love that it’s so versatile and it gives off that rustic farmhouse feel. I like to use black and white buffalo check with neutrals and greenery during the summer as a way to add dimension. It’s such a fun pattern!

2. Greenery
I love to add a lot of greenery around the house during summer. It’s the time of year where things outside are naturally green and bringing it inside breathes life into your space. I like to use a mix of real and faux greenery. One of my favorite things to do is clip greenery stems from overgrowth in my backyard and put them in a vase inside as free decor!

3. Lemons
While I didn’t use any lemons in my decor this year, I think it’s such a cute summer decorating idea! The yellow of the lemons brings in the brightness of summertime. These ladies below did a fantastic job using lemons to decorate for summer!
While I love to use whites and neutrals all year, I think they work especially well in the summer. I think neutrals give off an instant cozy vibe and look so bright and inviting. Summer is full of sunny days, so using whites and neutrals brings that brightness inside.

I’ve had quite a few questions recently on how I added sharpie shiplap to a few walls in our house. I thought I should write a quick blog post explaining how simple it is to do.
I love the look of shiplap but didn’t want to nail actual boards to the wall, just in case I ever grow old of the style or if we ever move and the next owners don’t like the farmhouse look as much as I do. Sharpie shiplap is such a cheap way to give the illusion of real shiplap and is much easier to install. Hopefully, I can help you recreate the look of shiplap for a fraction of the cost in your own home!

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
The first step in sharpie shiplap is to gather the supplies you will need. The things I used were: white interior wall paint, a wooden yard stick, a 4 foot long level with a straight edge (I found mine at Menards), and these Sharpie Paint Pens in Black from Amazon. The paint pens come in a pack of three and I only went through one pen for an entire room. They really go a long way!
Step 2: Paint the Walls White
The next step in sharpie shiplap is to paint the wall or walls that you want shiplapped white. I used a cheap, base paint that took way too many coats that I don’t recommend and won’t use again. I suggest getting a gallon of higher quality interior paint and having it tinted the white you want. We painted the exterior of our home in Sherwin Williams Pure White and I think that a bright, crisp white like that would be perfect for shiplap. The finish is up to you, but satin is what I tend to use most. Let the paint dry thoroughly before moving on to the next step.

Step 3: Measure Out the Lines
Starting at the top of the wall along a corner or edge, measure using a yard stick and make marks where you want your shiplap lines to be. I measured 6” down each time, to make my shiplap look like it had the width of 6”. You could do wider widths if you’d like but I wouldn’t recommend any smaller. The 6” marks also equal out nicely if you have 8” ceilings. You’ll want to start at the top so that any smaller widths would be at the bottom of the wall and less noticeable.

Step 4: Draw the Lines
Using a straight-edge level, begin drawing your lines with your Sharpie paint pen. Make sure that each line you draw is straight and level. I think it is easier to get the start of each line first along a corner or edge and then continuing each line. You will make mistakes and on occasion the level may slip. Don’t worry, you can always just paint right over the mistake! If you are doing multiple walls that connect at a corner, just continue drawing the lines around the room connecting the lines. Be careful to draw straight and level lines if you’re doing an entire room as you don’t want the last wall to not line up at the corners. Work your way across the wall until all lines are drawn.

That’s it! Its such a simple project that gets easier the more you do it and is so affordable! I’ve “shiplapped” in three different rooms in my house for the cost of paint and the pack of paint pens!

Happy July! It’s so hard to believe that it’s already July. I’m due August 2nd, so it’s very probable that this may be baby month!
This year, I wanted to add patriotic touches around the house by adding simple, farmhouse-style Fourth of July decor. Honestly, I think that decorating for the Fourth is the simplest holiday to decorate for. You can simply add American flags around the house and you’re done!
The only thing I bought this year were a few flags from the Target dollar spot to use for my tablescape. I was inspired by a patriotic tablescape by Liz Marie Galvan and decided to try to create something similar.
I added $1 large flags from the Target dollar spot in $2 clearance vases from Old Time Pottery as a centerpiece. Later on, I added a clearance greenery garland from Hobby Lobby. For the place settings, I used galvanized chargers from Hobby Lobby, white plates from the Dollar Tree, white clearance napkins from Target, and wood napkin rings from Christmas Tree Shops. The little flags came in a pack of 3 for $1 in the dollar spot at Target and the greenery sprigs I pulled out of the garland.
I also added some small American flags placed in glasses to the shelf in my living room, along with another $5 clearance Hobby Lobby garland.
I used my white Ikea pillows and a small flag pillow that I found last year at the Target dollar spot on the sofa in the living room.
Above my church pew in my entryway, I draped an old, weathered American flag. I used white Ikea pillows and an “Amazing Grace” pillow cover from Hobby Lobby that I got a while back for only $6.
I also hung a small flag from a hook in my kitchen next to a Rae Dunn Home Sweet Home sign.
For my coffee bar, I brought out my two Rae Dunn USA mugs. I also added a $3 banner that I found at the Target dollar spot last year and a pack of red, white and blue paper straws from the Dollar Tree.
That’s all! It’s so simple to decorate for July 4th! I love that you can add a few American flags and it instantly feels like summer. If you’ve never decorated for the Fourth of July, I encourage you to. I usually decorate with mostly neutrals, but adding a pop of red and blue is such a nice change. I’ll be sad to take it down, but I’m already looking forward to decorating for fall!
