Spring Watering Can Mantel

Hello friends! Yesterday, I switched up my mantel decor and created this spring watering can mantel!

I was inspired by a similar look that Liz Marie Galvan shared a while back where she hung a vintage watering can above her mantel and I wanted to try to create a similar look. This mantel is quickly becoming one of my favorite spaces in my home to style!

I hung a vintage galvanized watering can by using a piece of twine looped on the handle and hung it from a screw I already had in the wall above the window frame. I placed fake stems inside the watering can and inside terra cotta pots of various sizes that I placed on the mantel. I added a set of iron candlesticks that we sell in our shop to complete the look.

On the ottoman below, I placed a few vintage books and a thrifted topiary in front of a vintage wooden crate with a pillow placed inside.

I also used this cottage pillow from our shop on the chair next to the mantel.

I love how it turned out! My $40 chalk painted mantel is my new favorite spot to decorate!

I hope I’ve inspired you in some way today! The sources for all of the items shown I’ve shared below.

If you follow me on Instagram, it’s pretty obvious that I love neutrals. They’re so versatile and just feel cozy to me. Neutrals have been increasingly popular in Christmas decor the past few years.

I used a lot of neutrals with pops of red in my Christmas decor last year and that’s my plan again this year.

I used mostly neutrals with pops of red last year.

I would like to share with you some of my favorite neutral Christmas decor finds. I don’t own many of these items and I do not want you to think you have to purchase any new decor in order for your home to be beautiful this Christmas. I just know that some people, including myself, like to buy a couple of items each year. So today, I want to share some decor pieces that would help you create a cozy, neutral Christmas look.

5 Ways to Create a Cozy Home

After spending much more time at home recently, I’ve been thinking about ways to make our home feel more cozy. I believe that home should be a place where you can relax and feel comfortable. Lately, I’ve been inspired by Liz Marie Galvan and her book Cozy White Cottage. If you haven’t read it yet, it gives a ton of wonderful ideas on how to make your home feel cozy and inviting. So today, I thought I’d put together a list of items that I think help to create a cozy home and a relaxing environment.

Be sure to check out the book Cozy White Cottage by Liz Marie Galvan if you haven’t yet!

1. Candles

The first thing I think of when I think of making home cozy is the smell of a yummy scented candle burning. There’s something about a home that smells good that just seems so inviting and comfortable. Candles are my favorite way to make my home feel cozy and welcoming. The flickering flame also gives off a cozy glow.

Candlesticks are an inexpensive way to add a cozy look to a table centerpiece.
I just love the flickering glow of lit candles!

2. Throw Blankets

Another thing that instantly gives a feeling of coziness is a nice throw blanket to cuddle up in. I like placing throw blankets around the house in baskets to easily grab, or draped on a sofa or comfy chair. They’re such an easy and affordable way to say “come on in and get comfortable”.

A blanket draped on furniture is a simple way to add that cozy feel.

3. Neutral Colors

To me, using neutrals in my home feels more calm and cozy than using dark or bright colors. I think neutrals are easy on the eyes and not too demanding of attention, which helps me feel more relaxed. Though not everyone feels this way, I love using neutrals to create a cozy atmosphere.

Most of my furniture and decor is comprised of white or neutral colors. All of the walls in my house are either light grey, white, or cream.
I painted this hutch in Sherwin Williams Alabaster, a great creamy neutral.

4. Texture

Blending various textures not only gives off a farmhouse feel, it makes a home feel more cozy and lived in. I like creating the look of texture even on my walls, with sharpie shiplap and board and batten. Blending various materials, such as wood, metals, glass, and fabrics around the house create a look that’s not so monotone and harsh.

Board and batten walls, patterned pillows, and the wood church pew all add texture to my entryway.
Sharpie shiplap and a decorated shelf add texture to this wall in my living room.

5. Reminders of Faith/Family/Friends

I love to put reminders of my faith around the house. My relationship with Jesus Christ brings me peace and reminds me that I have a forever home with Him. Reminders of my faith remind me of the love my Savior has for me and makes me feel at home. For you, it could mean the same thing or maybe it could be family photos and memories that make your home feel cozy.

In our bedroom, I have a pair of signs that say “It is well with my soul”, a reminder of my faith and salvation through Christ. You also can see some of my other favorite cozy elements in this photo.
A sign reminding me of the fruit of the spirit and a cozy throw blanket make this corner a cozy spot to sit.

I hope I’ve given you some tips on ways you can make your home feel cozy and comfortable, especially during this time when many of us are staying home more often. Be sure to follow me on Instagram @faith.and.farmhouse for more home decor inspiration. Thanks for reading and God bless!
