This is only the second year I’ve decorated for Halloween, and I’m so glad I did!
Decorating my home brings me joy. It is a creative outlet for me and helps me reduce stress and anxiety. I’m more excited to decorate nowadays since it’s been such a crazy, stressful year. Being stuck at home with a 2-year-old and a 2-month-old can be hard. Taking the time to get creative and decorate a space is a form of self-care for me.
Below are photos of my home decorated for Halloween this year. I hope it can give you some inspiration!

I don’t like creepy Halloween decor. Skulls, blood, and other scary things I will never decorate my home with. That’s just not me. But I do think Halloween is what you make it and can be just another fun time of year. I’m fine with cute and slightly spooky decorations like bats and spiders. Hocus Pocus is the only “scary” movie I watch this time of year.
Last year was the first year that I’ve ever decorated for Halloween. This year, I knew I wanted to decorate for Halloween again, but I wanted to keep it simple.
I thought I’d share a few easy ways to add some cute (but not scary) Halloween decor to your home.
1. Bring in Some Bats
Bats are a nocturnal animal that can be a bit spooky. While I’m not very scared of bats, I did have one fly at my face and almost hit me once on an evening walk. That was pretty frightening so I understand why some people are scared of them. I think they’re the perfect choice to decorate with to add some spooky around the house and creating a bat wall is simple!
I have used felt bats from the Target dollar spot and clearance adhesive paper bats from Michaels in these photos, but they can easily be found on Amazon. Paper bats are also fun to make with kids!
2. Use Black and White
Another easy way to decorate for Halloween is to use black and white in your decor. While black and orange is a popular color combination for Halloween, black and white is a bit more simple and you may have more pieces on hand to use.
For instance, I use black and white buffalo check print at Halloween as it is something that I can use all year long. These buffalo check pillows paired with a Halloween pillow cover give off a Halloween look that is cute yet simple. It’s also not as harsh as black and orange can be.
I used mostly black and white in my Hocus Pocus themed coffee bar this year, with just a few pops of orange here and there.
3. Add Some Halloween Words and Phrases
Another easy way to decorate for Halloween is to bring in items with Halloween words or sayings on them. I like to use my Rae Dunn Halloween pieces that I’ve collected on my coffee bar and hutch.
I wrote “Hocus Pocus, I Need Coffee to Focus” on a chalkboard next to my Halloween coffee bar last year.
Decorating for Halloween can be so simple and fun! I like to put up my Halloween decor on or right around October 1st and keep it up until Halloween. I hope I’ve given you some ideas on how to add some cute Halloween decor to your home!
Our living room is one of the spaces I would rarely show on Instagram, yet it is the room we spend the most time in as a family. We never painted it when we moved in. The color was a darker gray than the rest of our home and it had a bluish undertone. We bought a large gray sectional when we moved in from a liquidation store nearby. When we got it home and in the room, we realized that it didn’t fit exactly like we’d hoped and it was a bit large for the space.
We made it work for a couple of years until I got the idea to give this room a refresh. I’m slowly working through every room in our house to make it “my favorite room”. What I mean is that if I don’t love a space in my home, I try to transform it into a something that I love so that every room eventually feels like “my favorite”.
The Before
This is the before photo of the room. The large gray sectional and gray walls made the space feel small and dark, despite it being the room in our house with the most windows. We sold the sectional on Facebook Marketplace for $500. We also sold an old rug for $15.
What We Changed
We started off by painting the walls in Swiss Coffee by Behr. This creamy off-white helped brighten the space so much! Paint and supplies cost $40.
We also moved an Ikea Ektorp chair and ottoman that we had in our son’s nursery into this room. We found another Ikea Ektorp sofa on marketplace that came with an additional ottoman for $75. We bought a new cover for $50 from Ikea and cleaned up the inside cushions of the couch. We sold the ottoman that came with it for $20. The new sofa ended up costing us a total of only $105. I found some new pillow covers and spent $25 at Hobby Lobby.
Eventually, to finish the room refresh, we will add a new rug and coffee table. I’ll share those additions once we find what we are looking for on Instagram!
The Cost Breakdown
We made $535 off of selling our sectional, an old rug, and the ottoman that came with the new sofa. In the end, we only spent $350 of it on a new couch/cover, paint, a new rug, coffee table, and pillow covers. We actually made money off of giving this room an update!

It’s finally time for fall decor! Today I’d like to share with you how I decorated my home this year for fall.
While it may not feel like fall yet in Indiana, many Instagram influencers decorate early in order to provide others with decor inspiration. Hopefully I can give you some ideas for your own fall decor!
Entryway
For my entryway, I used neutral pillows and a throw blanket on my church pew. I also used a pumpkin pillow from Homegoods and a hand-me-down fall wreath. Although it’s so simple, it gives off a cozy, fall vibe as soon as you walk in the door.
Living Room
On the shelf above the sofa, I added my new Pumpkin Patch sign from Hobby Lobby that my little sister got me as a gift. It makes such a great focal point in the room that is unmistakably fall. I added a few Hearth and Hand clearance eucalyptus stems to create the look of a garland and added white pumpkins from Hobby Lobby.
A few black Goodwill candlesticks and a white pitcher filled with more eucalyptus balances out and fills each side of the shelf. I added my new Hey There Pumpkin pillow cover from Three Little Mommas on the couch. Isn’t this pillow cover adorable?!
Dining Room
In the dining room, I created a fall tablescape using a jute runner, thrifted brass candlesticks, more Hobby Lobby white pumpkins, and these orange eucalyptus stems from Joann Fabrics.
I also added this DIY book page banner that I made to my Goodwill-find accordion coat rack.
Coffee Bar
On the coffee bar, I added a black and white buffalo check banner from Target Dollar Spot last year along with other black and white accents.
I added this mini sign from Hobby Lobby and my Rae Dunn pumpkin spice mug to my tiered tray.
Kitchen
I didn’t decorate much for fall in my kitchen but I did switch out my greenery for a few fall stems on this little hook.
All Things Fall
Overall, I decorated pretty simply for fall this year. I decorated earlier than I ever have because 2020 has been a crazy year and I was ready for a change. I’ll be decorating my porch soon and I’ll share that when it’s finished!

My entryway is one of my favorite places in my home to decorate. It’s one of the first things guests see when they enter our home and I want it to feel cozy as soon as you walk in the door.
I chose to use a lot of neutrals and texture to create a cozy fall entryway. Neutral tones and comfy pillows and throw blankets are just a few ways to create a cozy home (read more about cozy basics here).
I used two $2.99 thrifted cream pillows (plaid on the back), along with some white IKEA pillows and a pumpkin pillow from HomeGoods on my church pew. I draped a cream-colored blanket over the back to add more texture.
I hung a hand-me-down wreath with rust colored leaves on the hook above the pew. The sign and lanterns I kept the same as always. I love the look of a lit tealight candle in these lanterns at night. So cozy!
Eventually, I even added a small chalkboard on the floor near the blanket to add a bit more texture.
It’s such a simple look for fall but I’m loving it. Let me know what you think!

Fall is almost here! While it’s still hot in Indiana, I’m excited for sweater weather and a trip the pumpkin patch! Today I’d like to share with you how I created a budget-friendly, farmhouse fall tablescape.
I wanted to create a simple fall look with a vintage farmhouse feel. I gained ideas off of Pinterest and Instagram and knew I wanted to use antique candlesticks, white pumpkins, and eucalyptus. I planned on using green eucalyptus stems laid flat as a garland, but I changed my mind in the process.
When styling a space, I typically have an idea in mind and then adapt and change as I progress. I think it turns out better when you don’t have a clear picture of the end result. Going into decorating a space without perfection in mind always makes you happier when things are finished.
For my tablescape, I used a clearance jute table runner from Hobby Lobby that my mom gave to me. I was using a black and white buffalo check runner before but I knew that wouldn’t give that vintage look I was hoping for. I was thankful that my mom gave me this one. She’s the best!
I have also been slowly gathering brass candlesticks whenever I find them at my local Goodwill. I came across this set of six antique brass candlesticks for only $2.99! A complete set like this one can cost about $30-$50 at an antique shop, so these were a lucky find!
I placed some fake white pumpkins from Hobby Lobby along the centerpiece. These ones are only $1.80 each (40% off fall decor), so very affordable.
I also found these beautiful rust-colored eucalyptus stems from Joann Fabrics. They were on sale for $1.99 each and I used a 20% off coupon for entering my email online. I used 4 stems placed in an old galvanized container in the center of the table.
For the place settings, I didn’t change what I already had there. I used Rae Dunn plates, buffalo check napkins and white dinner plates from the Dollar Tree. The galvanized chargers are also from Hobby Lobby.
Overall, I’m happy with how my fall tablescape turned out. It was simple and inexpensive and gives off that vintage farmhouse look I was going for. It will be a perfect place to gather with family for dinner on chilly, fall evenings.

This year for fall, I knew that I wanted to keep a mostly neutral color scheme with a few pops of orange. I also knew that I wanted to incorporate black and white buffalo check. A few of my favorite fall farmhouse decor items include white pumpkins, fall Rae Dunn mugs, fall pillow covers, and cute wooden signs!
My Fall Entryway
For our entryway, I decorated my antique church pew with buffalo check pillows and this adorable pumpkin patch pillow cover. I also added a fall floral basket that my mom made me!
Sitting Room
I added another cute fall pillow cover in our front sitting room and some fall stems in a galvanized tin. I added this thankful sign that I got for $3 last year in the Target dollar spot on my chippy white table.
Fall Tablescape
In my dining room, I used black and white buffalo check napkins, Rae Dunn plates, and galvanized chargers for our table setting. For the centerpiece, I found these cute lanterns at Hobby Lobby on sale for $3 each and a clearance greenery garland that was only $5! The little white pumpkins are also from Hobby Lobby and were on sale for about $2 each.
Target Bullseye Spot for the win!
Before I found the garland on clearance, I had a Rae Dunn pitcher with eucalyptus stems and this cute little sign that I found at the Target dollar spot as the centerpiece.
Hutch Display
I draped some faux wheat stems on the top of my hutch and kept my tobacco basket and cotton wreath on the top. I added a buffalo check napkin and a cute wood sign (from Hobby Lobby) to keep it simple. I also added a bead garland that I made using these beads!
I’m so grateful!!
A few days later, I received a package in the mail containing this adorable Rae Dunn Grateful pumpkin. It was a gift from an anonymous Instagram follower for hitting a goal of reaching 1000 followers. Thank you to whoever gifted me this! It makes me so happy!
Fall Coffee Bar
I used more buffalo check and some new fall Rae Dunn mugs to decorate my coffee bar. This cute Give Thanks sign I found on clearance for $4 at Hobby Lobby and the buffalo check banner was only $3 in the Target Bullseye Spot!
My Mug Rack
I also added a few fall Rae Dunn mugs and some orange stems to my mug rack to give it a simple fall look!
Built-in Bench
I added these buffalo check pillow covers and another Target Bullseye spot find, this cute pumpkin pillow, to my built-in bench in our living room.
Breakfast Nook
I added some cotton stems, a little white pumpkin, and some buffalo check napkins to the breakfast nook table setting. I like to keep the table setting simple in here because this is where we eat most of our meals!
Hallway Decor
At the end of our hallway, I added an antique window frame (look at that chippy white paint!) and a hand-me-down orange berry wreath. I also added a small black table with some black candlesticks that I found at Goodwill for only $1 each! I love how simple this was and the difference it made to our previously empty hallway is incredible!
