We’ve Opened An Online Shop!

Yes, you heard that right! I’m finally starting to work towards my dream of opening a small home decor shop by starting an online shop!

Faith and Farmhouse Market is officially open for business!

I know that it’s a big dream to have my own shop one day, but big dreams have to start somewhere, right?! We are starting small by selling gathered decor items online only. We will be saving up any money we earn to turn into a physical booth somewhere or a shop of my own. We launched almost two weeks ago now and I’ve been so busy fulfilling orders and finding items to sell that I haven’t got to blog about it yet!

I decided to call the shop Faith and Farmhouse Market as an extension of my Instagram name, @faith.and.farmhouse

While it will definitely be a slow process, I would love to save up enough money to open a physical location, whether that is by renting a booth or a storefront. We are praying for God’s guidance and if that ultimately isn’t his will, then we are ok with that! His will for our lives is so much better than what we could plan or imagine if we put our trust in Him!

For now, we are selling various found and vintage items, such as brass candlesticks and ironstone pieces. Antique scales, old books, and vintage glass are just a few of the other items we have in our shop!

Winter Decorating: How to Keep It Cozy After Christmas

Happy New Year! After the long year that 2020 was, I’m looking forward to 2021.

I recently took down my Christmas decor. I’m always s surprised by how empty our house looks after taking down all of Christmas decor. Christmas decor gives that cozy feeling. Winter is so dull and stark outside, and I don’t want it to feel like that inside our house too. Today I want to share some tips on how I keep it feeling cozy even after the Christmas decor is put away.

1. Cuddle Up with Cozy Blankets

*I draped a fuzzy blanket over the bed in our master.*

Your home can’t feel warm and cozy during the winter if you’re not actually warm and cozy while at home. I believe that throw blankets should not be there just for looks, but they’re meant to actually be cuddled up in!

2. Use Greenery

*I used a faux cedar garland draped over the church pew in our entryway.*

I love using various types of greenery, real and faux, throughout the year in my home. I use winter greens, like pine and cedar, during January and February.

3. Light Some Candles

Candles will always be my favorite way to make a space feel cozy and inviting. The warm glow of a candle during winter will make the space feel welcoming and relaxing.

4. Incorporate More Texture

*I used a combination of wood, brass, greenery, and glass on our built in shelves.*

Using various textures always adds a cozy, put-together look to a room. I love to use various soft pillows and blankets, along with glass, wood and metal to incorporate various textures into a room.

A Cozy Vintage Christmas

This year, I wanted to keep my Christmas decor simple. After the year we’ve had, I just wanted a cozy Christmas at home and I wanted my decor to reflect that. I wasn’t feeling some of my bright red decor pieces that I’ve used in years past and I actually sold some of it on Facebook Marketplace. While I did keep some pops of red in certain areas around the house, I incorporated more neutrals than I usually do. I wanted it to feel cozy and inviting this Christmas, with a vintage farmhouse feel.

In our entryway, I hung a jute star garland that I found on clearance at Hobby Lobby a few years ago and this adorable book page banner that my friend Amy @theboundandprint made me. I used my favorite chunky knit pillow covers and a couple of thrifted tan pillows on the church pew. I love the look of wood and white paired with neutrals.

In the front sitting room, one of my favorite rooms in the house, I decorated my shelf with a DIY book page banner, thrifted brass candlesticks, faux cedar garland, and an antique gold mirror. I used a vintage sled that I found at Goodwill as coffee table decor.

One of our Christmas traditions is to go out and cut a real tree every year as a family. We found a local tree farm last year that sells Canaan and Frazier firs and all of their trees are $35. I love searching through the field with our little ones to find the perfect tree and cutting it down ourselves. I only bought one pack of ribbon ornaments and some white cording (1.29/yd) from Hobby Lobby this year. All of the other ornaments I already had.

I used some cedar stems in my antique galvanized vase as a centerpiece on my dining table. I paired it with a brass trumpet candlestick that I found at Goodwill for $1 and a candle placed in a $3 mini wreath from the Target dollar spot.

I used other vintage-style pieces around the dining room, like a thrifted brass horn and an old-fashioned hot cocoa sign.

I wanted to keep at least one room in the house completely neutral. I was so excited to decorate our living room for Christmas since we just recently gave it a refresh. I replaced the jute rug in here with this neutral rug I found on Facebook Marketplace for only $20!

I kept our master bedroom decor neutral too. I strung a bell garland that I made using bells I found at Goodwill and added a pillow from the Target dollar spot on our bed.

I decided to use my red Rae Dunn Christmas pieces on my mug rack and on my coffee bar for some pops of red. I also added just a few pops of red here and there. I’m glad I didn’t completely ditch the red everywhere!

Painted Hardwood Floors in the Master Bedroom

Hello friends! We’re finally finished with our master bedroom and closet and I’m able to share all of the details on our painted hardwood floors.

Before, we had dark tan carpet in our master bedroom. It needed shampooed four times before we felt that all of the pet hair had been removed before we moved in. The previous owners didn’t clean the house before moving out and it needed a major deep clean. It took us a week after taking possession before we could move in due to all of the cleaning and painted we did. We even scrubbed all of the walls to rid every inch of pet hair. It was a labor of love for sure but definitely worth it.

I had never really thought much of the carpet in our room except that it would be nice to replace one day. I didn’t even consider the fact that we might have hardwoods underneath. One day I discovered the old listing from when the house sold to the previous owners before us. They did quite a bit of renovations and in the old photos I noticed hardwood floors in the rooms upstairs. We have hardwoods in every room of the house except the bedrooms, but it is a new hardwood that the owners before us installed during renovations. I decided to pull up a corner of the carpet in our bedroom to see what was beneath and sure enough, there were hardwoods.

To me, the older hardwoods with a rug was preferable to carpet, so we planned on just pulling up the carpet and living with the old hardwood. We didn’t realize what shape it was in until we looked.

We found paint splatters covering the floor and an entire section that was patched. I was disappointed and we were about to tuck the carpet back down until I suddenly thought about painting it as a temporary fix. I had seen painted hardwoods in older houses and on Instagram and thought it was worth a shot.

My husband ripped out all of the carpet and padding that morning. The hardest part was pulling up the tack strip and all of the nails around the edge. Once that was all up, I vacuumed and mopped the old, stained hardwoods, then I began painting.

We bought Dutch Boy Porch and Floor Paint at our local Menards, along with a paint roller with an extender pole. I had it tinted in Benjamin Moore Tapestry Beige, a color that one of my favorite home decor bloggers, Liz Marie Galvan, used in her farmhouse.

It only took two coats to cover the floor since it was such a high quality paint. I am not sponsored by Dutch Boy in any way, but I’m so happy with how well it covered and how smooth and easy it was to paint. I definitely recommend this paint!

After the two coats were fully dry, I went through and scraped some of the paint out of the cracks with a razor blade to show more of the wood lines. We still have to add a piece of trim around the edge of the room, but it already looks so beautiful!

We added this jute rug to complete the look. We didn’t seal it with anything because it’s only a temporary fix and we may put down new pine flooring in the future, but so far it’s holding up well! If you were wanting it to last longer, I would seal it with a polycrylic or polyurethane, depending on if your paint is oil or water based.

How to Create a Cozy Christmas Coffee Bar

It’s that time of year again! Time to deck the halls for Christmas! I love this time of year and Christmas is one of my favorite holidays to decorate for. I couldn’t decorate for Christmas without creating a cozy Christmas coffee bar!

You only need a to do a few things to transform a regular coffee bar into a festive space all decked out for Christmas. Below are some ideas on how to create your very own cozy Christmas coffee bar!

1. Christmas Mugs

I love to display my Christmas Rae Dunn mugs on my coffee bar! Having Christmas mugs rather than regular mugs set out instantly creates a Christmas look. Below are a few adorable Christmas mugs I love.

2. Christmas Sign

I used this Merry Christmas sign from the Target dollar spot this year in my Christmas coffee bar. I used a Merry Christmas wood cutout from Hobby Lobby last year. Displaying Christmas signs are a great way to make the space look festive and there are so many adorable signs to choose from!

3. Winter Greenery or Miniature Trees

Using winter greens or mini Christmas trees on a coffee bar make the space look cozy and natural. Mini bottle brush trees are great too! This year, I untied two $3 mini cedar wreaths from the Target dollar spot and stretched them flat to make a small garland. But there are a lot of different greenery options to choose from! Here are a few of my favorites:

If you follow me on Instagram, it’s pretty obvious that I love neutrals. They’re so versatile and just feel cozy to me. Neutrals have been increasingly popular in Christmas decor the past few years.

I used a lot of neutrals with pops of red in my Christmas decor last year and that’s my plan again this year.

28 on the 28th

It’s my 28th birthday today! I am 28 on the 28th of October. So today I thought I’d share with you 28 facts about me so maybe you’ll feel like you know me a little bit better!

1. I am a baptized believer. I believe Jesus Christ died for my sins, was buried, and rose again and wants to have a relationship with you too!

2. I am a momma to a beautiful toddler girl and a handsome baby boy.

3. My husband and I have been married five years and together for nine. We met in high school and started dating the summer after I graduated.

4. I have a degree in Elementary Education and taught first grade for 4 years. Teaching will always have a special place in my heart.

5. I’m the oldest child in my family and I have 3 younger sisters.

6. I used to want to be a country singer when I grew up. I won talent shows when I was young and still love to sing. I like ton sing in our worship band at church.

7. My go-to Starbucks drink is cold brew with a few pumps of vanilla and some cream. I also love a good caramel macchiato and their pumpkin cream cold brew.

8. I can’t swim. At least, not well. I think I could swim enough to save my own life but I don’t want to find out.

9. I hate spiders.

10. I love Mexican food.

11. My husband and I have been on 4 Caribbean cruises in the past 5 years.We fell in love with cruising on our honeymoon and hope to go on many more.

12. My favorite color is aqua blue, like the Caribbean waters. I also love various shades of white and cream.

15. Lighting a great smelling candle is so cozy to me. And diffusing lavender essential oil at night.

16. Summer and fall are tied for my favorite seasons.

17. I’ve seen The Office all of the way through many times. My husband is an ultimate fan of the show and we love to watch it in our spare time.

18. I graduated college with the highest distinction, Summa Cum Laude.

19. I was in show choir and musicals in high school.

20. I have a minor in Journalism.

21. I love a good chick flick (The Notebook and Sweet Home Alabama are two of my favs) but also love a good sci-fi or action movie.

22. I get a lot of my clothes from Goodwill. I love shopping secondhand and don’t like to spend a lot of money on clothes. You can find so many cute things if you take the time to look!

23. Speaking of Goodwill, I love thrifting. Most of my furniture and home decor are thrifted.

24. Anything coconut or maple flavored I will probably like.

25. I would love to get more into gardening.

26. I would love to turn blogging and my Instagram into a career someday but if not, that’s ok too. I know whatever God has planned for me is so much greater than my own plans.

27. I struggle with anxiety.

28. I hope that I can be a light for Christ and share His love in this dark world.

Halloween Home Tour 2020

This is only the second year I’ve decorated for Halloween, and I’m so glad I did!

Decorating my home brings me joy. It is a creative outlet for me and helps me reduce stress and anxiety. I’m more excited to decorate nowadays since it’s been such a crazy, stressful year. Being stuck at home with a 2-year-old and a 2-month-old can be hard. Taking the time to get creative and decorate a space is a form of self-care for me.
