Kitchen Renovation: Our Countertops Got Installed!

Hello all! This past Thursday our new granite countertops got installed and I love them!

After originally wanting a white Carrara quartz, we decided on a granite called Salinas White granite after seeing the beautiful slab. The white quartz was just too much white for my liking, and this one has a lot more interest and movement to it. It turned out to be exactly what I wanted and had been looking for!

We went with a company called Cabinet and Stone Expo in Indianapolis and the granite only cost us $49/sq ft installed, which is cheaper than most I saw at Home Depot (plus they had an additional install fee). They were amazing throughout the process and the whole timeframe of the project was only a month.

I love how they turned out! Eventually we want to add a subway tile backsplash and then our kitchen update will be complete!

Dining Room Reveal

Hello friends! We recently had a table made and added a new rug to our dining room and I love it!

For some time, I’ve wanted to trade out our wood and white dining table that we got off of marketplace a few years ago. I’ve always loved the look of the Arhaus Francis dining table, but the price was just not in our budget. While scrolling through marketplace one day, I saw an ad for a local carpenter who makes custom solid wood farm tables. The price was more what we were looking for, so I reached out.

I was quoted $650 for a 6ft solid pine table and bench set with the turned legs that mimic the ones on the Arhaus table. We ended up selling our old table for $150, the chairs and bench for $200, and an antique pie safe that we scored for free for $350. We also sold the round wood table that used to be in our eat-in kitchen that I refinished for another $200. We simply switched things out for about the same price and ended up with a custom dining table we love.

The table wouldn’t fit well on the 5’x7’ rug I previously had in this space, so I sold that as well and reached out to my favorite rug company, Boutique Rugs. I had found a barely used 8’x10’ Sattley area rug from Boutique Rugs on marketplace for only $50 for our living room a while ago. I loved it so much that I chose to get another one for our dining room.

5 Ways to Create a Cozy Space

Hello friends! I love making my home feel cozy and comfortable. It brings me joy and makes me feel more relaxed when a space feels cozy. So today I thought I’d share my favorite ways to create a cozy space in your home!

1. Candles

Candles are my favorite way to make a space feel warm and inviting. The soft glow and the soothing scents just make a space feel like home.

2. Pillows

Soft, fluffy pillows of various materials and textures can make a room look comfortable. While I don’t like to go overboard and like to have enough space on the sofa to sit without moving them, pillows are essential to making a cozy home.

3. Plants/Greenery

I love bringing the outdoors in using plants and greenery, both real and fake, throughout our home. I’m slowly becoming a plant lady and have quite a few pothos plants. I just love the look of them! Plants bring life into a room and instantly give it a welcoming feel.

4. Neutrals

I love the look of neutrals and use them throughout my home. While color can certainly be cozy, personally I find a neutral space more relaxing. Bold, bright colors can be too overwhelming for me at times. A neutral room with subtle pops of color just feels more cozy.

5. Wood Tones

Wood can bring texture and character to any space. I like to use various wood pieces around our home to give it a warm and cozy look.

DIY Open Shelving in the Kitchen

Hello friends! We recently made some open shelves in our kitchen and today I want to share with you what we used and how simple it was!

I’ve always loved the look of open shelving in the kitchen, but I never thought it would be possible in ours. We have a small kitchen with no pantry, so storage is limited. But after organizing our cabinets and getting rid of dishes we didn’t use, we had an entire cabinet that wasn’t needed between our window and back door. I decided it would be better to have some open shelving and in return, get more counter space by moving canisters that were previously on the counter onto the shelves.

First, we took down the cabinet to find a blue wall with a ton of holes to fill. I was eager to get the open shelving up, so the holes still need filled and then painted, but that will be simple.

Next, I pulled out some leftover gray paint that matches the rest of the kitchen and painted where the cabinet was. I would love to paint the kitchen an off white eventually, but don’t have the time to repaint the kitchen now.

I found these shelves and brackets at Home Depot. My husband attached them to the wall as well as a peg rack that I found a while back at my local Goodwill.

Finally, I styled the shelves with my Rae Dunn canisters, some plates, greenery, and a Dundee marmalade jar. I hung a few tea towels from our shop, Faith and Farmhouse Market, on the peg rail.

I love how they turned out! It was such a simple weekend DIY and now I have another fun place to decorate and more counter space! Win win!

Spring Watering Can Mantel

Hello friends! Yesterday, I switched up my mantel decor and created this spring watering can mantel!

I was inspired by a similar look that Liz Marie Galvan shared a while back where she hung a vintage watering can above her mantel and I wanted to try to create a similar look. This mantel is quickly becoming one of my favorite spaces in my home to style!

I hung a vintage galvanized watering can by using a piece of twine looped on the handle and hung it from a screw I already had in the wall above the window frame. I placed fake stems inside the watering can and inside terra cotta pots of various sizes that I placed on the mantel. I added a set of iron candlesticks that we sell in our shop to complete the look.

On the ottoman below, I placed a few vintage books and a thrifted topiary in front of a vintage wooden crate with a pillow placed inside.

I also used this cottage pillow from our shop on the chair next to the mantel.

I love how it turned out! My $40 chalk painted mantel is my new favorite spot to decorate!

Cozy Spring Cottage Style

Hello friends and happy spring! Today I wanted to talk about simple ways to decorate for spring to achieve a cozy cottage look.

I’m not one to go all out with my spring decor. While I have nothing against it, using a lot of bunnies, Easter eggs and spring pastels are just not my preference. Instead, I like to keep it simple when decorating for spring. By making just a few simple decor changes, your home will be spring ready in no time!

1. Terra Cotta Pots

To me, the classic look of terra cotta pots are perfect for a spring cottage look. I recently came across some old terra cotta pots that I got for free at an estate sale that had been sitting out next to a garage. They have an aged, vintage look to them that I love! This aged look can be created using garden lime or paint, or we have a few left that look aged for sale in our shop, Faith and Farmhouse Market.

2. Real and Faux Spring Greenery

Bringing in greenery, both real and fake, instantly makes it feel cozier and breathes life to into a room. I love getting new houseplants in the spring. Hobby Lobby also sells some affordable spring greenery like these small bushes and these curly stems that I’ve used around my home. (Tip: Only buy their greenery when it goes half off every other week.)

3. Vintage Gardening Items

I like to incorporate vintage gardening pieces, like galvanized watering cans, flower frogs, or plant markers for a cozy spring look.

4. A Reminder of Easter

I always try and put something out that reminds me of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. I tore this song page out of an old hymnal and put it in a chippy white frame on my mantel as a reminder that He is risen.

Hello all! Today I wanted to share how I gave my mantel a cottage style look for spring! I decorated this mantel with pieces I already had and a few things from our online shop, Faith and Farmhouse Market.

I used faux spring greenery, aged terra cotta pots, a vintage watering can, an old window, and a framed hymn to create this spring cottage style mantel.

It took only 5 minutes to decorate this space and I’m loving how it turned out!

Chalk Paint Mantel Makeover

Hello all! If you follow me on Instagram, then you may have seen my most recent Facebook Marketplace find, a $40 fireplace mantel.

I originally had a different mantel for a few weeks in my living room (also from marketplace) but it just wasn’t exactly what I wanted and was a bit too large for the space. I sold that one for quite a bit more than I paid and actually made money off of it, so it was worth trying it out!

When this mantel popped up on marketplace for only $40, I knew I could make it work! I wanted one that didn’t stick out from the wall as much in case I ever wanted to move the couch in front of it and this one was much thinner than the other one.

I also wanted it to have a distressed, aged look to it. I have painted furniture with chalk paint in the past and distressed it, so I knew how to get the look that I wanted.

For this project I used:

– Rustoleum Chalked Paint in Linen White

– Sanding Block

– Drop Cloth

– Paintbrush

I painted this indoors since it was winter and too cold to do it outdoors or in the garage. I think chalk paint has less of a smell than interior latex paint and I painted it in a large room. However, always make sure your space is well-ventilated or paint outdoors if possible.

After the paint was completely dry, I simply hand sanded the areas I wanted distressed. The chalk paint comes right off and gives a perfectly distrsssed look!

I’m loving how it turned out! I think it’s perfect for the space and exactly what I envisioned. I can’t wait to style it different ways through the seasons! This project was so simple.

We’ve Opened An Online Shop!

Yes, you heard that right! I’m finally starting to work towards my dream of opening a small home decor shop by starting an online shop!

Faith and Farmhouse Market is officially open for business!

I know that it’s a big dream to have my own shop one day, but big dreams have to start somewhere, right?! We are starting small by selling gathered decor items online only. We will be saving up any money we earn to turn into a physical booth somewhere or a shop of my own. We launched almost two weeks ago now and I’ve been so busy fulfilling orders and finding items to sell that I haven’t got to blog about it yet!

I decided to call the shop Faith and Farmhouse Market as an extension of my Instagram name, @faith.and.farmhouse

While it will definitely be a slow process, I would love to save up enough money to open a physical location, whether that is by renting a booth or a storefront. We are praying for God’s guidance and if that ultimately isn’t his will, then we are ok with that! His will for our lives is so much better than what we could plan or imagine if we put our trust in Him!

For now, we are selling various found and vintage items, such as brass candlesticks and ironstone pieces. Antique scales, old books, and vintage glass are just a few of the other items we have in our shop!

Winter Decorating: How to Keep It Cozy After Christmas

Happy New Year! After the long year that 2020 was, I’m looking forward to 2021.

I recently took down my Christmas decor. I’m always s surprised by how empty our house looks after taking down all of Christmas decor. Christmas decor gives that cozy feeling. Winter is so dull and stark outside, and I don’t want it to feel like that inside our house too. Today I want to share some tips on how I keep it feeling cozy even after the Christmas decor is put away.

1. Cuddle Up with Cozy Blankets

I draped a fuzzy blanket over the bed in our master.

Your home can’t feel warm and cozy during the winter if you’re not actually warm and cozy while at home. I believe that throw blankets should not be there just for looks, but they’re meant to actually be cuddled up in!

2. Use Greenery

I used a faux cedar garland draped over the church pew in our entryway.

I love using various types of greenery, real and faux, throughout the year in my home. I use winter greens, like pine and cedar, during January and February.

3. Light Some Candles

Brass candlesticks are my favorite.

Candles will always be my favorite way to make a space feel cozy and inviting. The warm glow of a candle during winter will make the space feel welcoming and relaxing.

4. Incorporate More Texture

I used a combination of wood, brass, greenery, and glass on our built in shelves.

Using various textures always adds a cozy, put-together look to a room. I love to use various soft pillows and blankets, along with glass, wood and metal to incorporate various textures into a room.
